Game Changers: Mail Domination

‘Game Changers’. Two words used to describe the people that dare to challenge the status quo. Those that dare to do things differently, betting on ideas that are so daring yet intuitive, making simpletons wonder why things weren’t done this way all along.

In recent times, I have come across many ventures led by such daring people, who not only have the potential to make money, but also change the game for everyone around them, setting a new example of how things should be done in their respective industries.

Today I shall be talking about a company in the domain of productivity software: Superhuman

———————————————————————————————————

Superhuman

Superhuman is a productivity software venture based out of San Francisco, California.

Key Members:

Conrad Irwin, Rahul Vohra, Vivek Sodera

What it does:

Superhuman provides an email client that blends minimalistic product design and cutting edge technology such as artificial intelligence to improve productivity, at a subscription cost of $30 per month.

Why is it a Game-Changer:

Superhuman has done to the email, what Apple did to the phone industry. It has combined minimalistic design with cutting edge technologies to create an absolute gem of a product, transforming a user’s email experience from drab to delight.

Another reason for being a game-changer is their perfect identification of product-market fit. Superhuman has been amazing at catering their product to a small market consisting of people who use email extensively on a daily basis (For example, CxOs, Venture Capitalists, Hedge fund managers etc), who value their time more than money, and would not bat an eyelid at providing $30/month to improve their email productivity.

Concerns:

Giants in the productivity space such as Microsoft and Slack, as well as new entries such as Facebook might take notice of Superhuman’s success and try to capture its market. These companies have all the necessary elements required to succeed in this space: Great design, great technology and deep pockets. Hence, these companies can afford to provide a similar or better product at a lesser cost, thus proving to be an immense threat to Superhuman’s growth and revenue.

How I found this company:

I found this company when it was mentioned on TechCrunch in 2017. I have been following the startup ever-since, as I am personally a huge fan of well-designed products.
